Ingredients
  

Dry Ingredients

  • 1.5 cup whole wheat flour
  • 0.5 cup unsweetened cocoa powder
  • 1 tsp baking soda
  • 0.5 tsp baking powder
  • 0.25 tsp salt

Wet Ingredients

  • 3 ripe bananas, mashed
  • 0.5 cup maple syrup
  • 0.25 cup unsweetened applesauce
  • 2 tbsp coconut oil, melted
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract

Optional

  • 0.5 cup chocolate chips (dark or semi-sweet)
  • Chopped nuts for topping

Instructions
 

  • Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Line a 9x13 inch baking pan with parchment paper.
  • In a large mixing bowl, whisk together the whole wheat flour, cocoa powder, baking soda, baking powder, and salt.

  • In a separate bowl, mash the ripe bananas. Add the maple syrup, applesauce, melted coconut oil, and vanilla extract. Mix well.

  • Pour the wet ingredients into the dry ingredients and mix until just combined. Be careful not to overmix.
  • Fold in the chocolate chips, if using.

  • Pour the batter into the prepared baking pan and spread evenly. Sprinkle with chopped nuts, if desired. Bake for 30-35 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.
  • Let the slice cool completely in the pan before cutting into squares. Enjoy!

Notes

For a richer chocolate flavor, use dark cocoa powder.
Add a pinch of cinnamon for extra warmth.
Store in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 3 days or in the refrigerator for up to a week.
