Equipment

  • 1 Large skillet
  • 1 Mixing Bowl
  • 1 Baking Sheet

Ingredients

Tofu

  • 14 oz extra-firm tofu pressed

Sesame Ginger Sauce

  • 3 tbsp soy sauce low sodium
  • 2 tbsp rice vinegar
  • 2 tbsp maple syrup
  • 1 tbsp sesame oil
  • 1 tbsp grated ginger fresh
  • 2 cloves garlic minced
  • 1 tsp cornstarch
  • 0.25 tsp red pepper flakes optional

Coating

  • 2 tbsp cornstarch
  • 2 tbsp sesame seeds
  • 0.1 pinch salt

Instructions

  • Press the tofu to remove excess water. Cut into 1-inch cubes.
  • In a bowl, combine cornstarch, sesame seeds, and salt.
  • Toss the tofu cubes in the cornstarch mixture until evenly coated.
  • Heat a large skillet over medium heat. Add the tofu and cook for 8-10 minutes, flipping occasionally, until golden brown and crispy.
  • While the tofu is cooking, whisk together soy sauce, rice vinegar, maple syrup, sesame oil, grated ginger, minced garlic, cornstarch, and red pepper flakes (if using) in a small bowl.
  • Pour the sauce over the cooked tofu and cook for another 2-3 minutes, stirring constantly, until the sauce has thickened and coats the tofu.
  • Serve the sesame ginger tofu hot with rice or noodles and your favorite vegetables.

Notes

For extra crispy tofu, you can bake the tofu in the oven at 400°F (200°C) for 20-25 minutes instead of pan-frying.
