Homemade Natural Deodorant
A simple and effective recipe for making your own natural deodorant at home using simple, health-conscious ingredients.
Equipment
- 1 Mixing Bowl
- 1 Double boiler or saucepan and heat-safe bowl
- 1 Deodorant container(s) Empty deodorant stick containers or small jars
Ingredients
Base Ingredients
- 2 tablespoons Shea Butter Provides moisturizing and soothing properties.
- 2 tablespoons Coconut Oil Has antibacterial and moisturizing effects.
- 2 tablespoons Beeswax Pellets Helps solidify the deodorant.
Odor Control
- 3 tablespoons Arrowroot Powder Absorbs moisture.
- 2 tablespoons Baking Soda Neutralizes odor. Reduce amount or omit for sensitive skin.
Optional Add-ins
- 15 drops Essential Oil Adds fragrance and antibacterial properties.
Instructions
- Combine shea butter, coconut oil, and beeswax in a double boiler or heat-safe bowl set over a saucepan of simmering water. Stir until completely melted and smooth.
- In a separate mixing bowl, whisk together arrowroot powder and baking soda.
- Remove the melted mixture from heat and let it cool slightly (about 2 minutes). Slowly add the dry ingredients to the melted mixture, stirring constantly to avoid clumping.
- Stir in your essential oil(s) of choice.
- Pour the mixture into your deodorant container(s). Let it sit at room temperature until completely hardened (this may take several hours, or you can speed it up by placing it in the refrigerator).
- Apply to clean, dry underarms as needed.
Notes
Store in a cool, dry place. If the deodorant melts in warm temperatures, simply refrigerate it to re-harden.
