Tofu Chicken - Vegan Recipe
A delicious and healthy vegan alternative to chicken, using tofu!
Equipment
- 1 Large Bowl For marinating
- 1 Frying Pan Non-stick recommended
Ingredients
Tofu
- 14 oz extra-firm tofu Pressed to remove excess water
Marinade
- 2 tbsp soy sauce Low sodium
- 1 tbsp maple syrup Pure maple syrup
- 1 tsp garlic powder
- 0.5 tsp smoked paprika
- 0.25 tsp black pepper Freshly ground
Coating
- 0.5 cup all-purpose flour Gluten-free option available
- 0.25 cup cornstarch
- 0.5 tsp salt
Instructions
- Press the tofu for at least 30 minutes to remove excess water. Cut the tofu into bite-sized pieces.
- In a bowl, whisk together soy sauce, maple syrup, garlic powder, smoked paprika, and black pepper. Add the tofu pieces to the marinade and let it sit for at least 15 minutes, or up to 1 hour.14 oz extra-firm tofu, 2 tbsp soy sauce, 1 tbsp maple syrup, 1 tsp garlic powder
- In a separate bowl, combine flour, cornstarch, and salt.0.5 tsp smoked paprika, 0.25 tsp black pepper
- Dredge each piece of marinated tofu in the flour mixture, ensuring it's fully coated.0.5 tsp smoked paprika, 0.25 tsp black pepper
- Heat a lightly oiled frying pan over medium heat. Add the coated tofu pieces and cook for 5-7 minutes per side, or until golden brown and crispy.
- Serve the tofu chicken immediately. Enjoy!
Notes
For extra crispy tofu, you can bake it in the oven at 400°F (200°C) for 20-25 minutes instead of frying. Make sure to flip the tofu halfway through cooking.
