Ingredients
  

Wet Ingredients

  • 1 ripe avocado, mashed Make sure it is smooth!
  • 0.5 cup unsweetened applesauce
  • 0.25 cup maple syrup Or honey
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract

Dry Ingredients

  • 0.5 cup whole wheat flour Or gluten-free blend
  • 0.5 cup unsweetened cocoa powder
  • 0.5 teaspoon baking soda
  • 0.25 teaspoon salt
  • 0.5 cup dark chocolate chips Optional

Instructions
 

  • Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease an 8x8 inch baking pan.
  • In a large bowl, mash the avocado until smooth. Add applesauce, maple syrup, and vanilla extract. Whisk until well combined.

  • In a separate bowl, whisk together whole wheat flour, cocoa powder, baking soda, and salt.

  • Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet ingredients, mixing until just combined. Be careful not to overmix.
  • Fold in the dark chocolate chips (if using).

  • Pour batter into the prepared baking pan and spread evenly. Bake for 20-25 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out with moist crumbs.
  • Let the brownies cool completely in the pan before cutting into squares.

Store in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 3 days or in the refrigerator for up to a week.
