Ingredients
  

Dry Ingredients

  • 2 cup whole wheat flour Provides fiber and nutrients.
  • 0.25 cup rolled oats Adds texture.
  • 1 tablespoon baking powder For leavening.
  • 0.25 teaspoon salt Enhances flavor.

Wet Ingredients

  • 0.25 cup unsweetened applesauce Replaces some of the butter for moisture and sweetness.
  • 0.25 cup coconut oil Adds moisture and flavor.
  • 0.5 cup orange juice Provides flavor and moisture.
  • 2 tablespoon orange zest Adds intense orange flavor.
  • 2 tablespoon honey or maple syrup Adds sweetness.

Instructions
 

  • Preheat oven to 400°F (200°C). Line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
  • In a large mixing bowl, whisk together the whole wheat flour, rolled oats, baking powder, and salt.

  • In a separate bowl, combine the unsweetened applesauce, melted coconut oil, orange juice, orange zest, and honey (or maple syrup).

  • Pour the wet ingredients into the dry ingredients and stir until just combined. Do not overmix.
  • Drop rounded spoonfuls of the dough onto the prepared baking sheet.
  • Bake for 13-15 minutes, or until the biscuits are lightly golden brown.
  • Let the biscuits cool on the baking sheet for a few minutes before transferring them to a wire rack to cool completely. Serve warm or at room temperature.

Notes

These biscuits are best enjoyed fresh. Store in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 2 days.
