Berry Chia Seed Jam
A healthy and delicious jam made with fresh berries and chia seeds, naturally sweetened and packed with nutrients.
Equipment
- 1 Saucepan Medium-sized
- 1 Spatula Silicone or wooden
- 2 Glass Jars Sterilized, for storage
Ingredients
Berries
- 2 cup Mixed Berries Choose organic if possible
Sweetener
- 2 tablespoon Maple Syrup Adjust to desired sweetness
Thickener
- 2 tablespoon Chia Seeds Adds fiber and thickens the jam
Flavor Enhancer
- 1 teaspoon Lemon Juice Brightens the flavor
Instructions
- In a medium saucepan, combine the mixed berries, maple syrup (or honey), chia seeds, and lemon juice.
- Bring the mixture to a simmer over medium heat. As the berries soften, mash them with a fork or potato masher to your desired consistency.
- Continue to simmer for about 10-15 minutes, stirring occasionally, until the jam has thickened to your liking. Remember that it will thicken further as it cools.
- Remove from heat and let the jam cool completely. Transfer to sterilized glass jars and store in the refrigerator for up to 2 weeks.
Notes
For a smoother jam, blend the mixture with an immersion blender before simmering. If using frozen berries, you may need to simmer a bit longer to reduce the excess liquid.
